Helen H. Conrad
While art was always a favorite activity, I worked for many years as a researcher, a certified community counselor, and high school teacher. Professional involvement in art began in 2009, upon receiving a certificate in Botanical Art & Illustration from the NC Botanical Garden. In addition to floral subjects, animal and people portraits are favorites, and I am beginning to experiment with land and seascapes. I enjoy working in various media – watercolor, pen and ink, graphite, carbon, charcoal, pastel, scratchboard, oil, acrylic, and colored pencils. I am a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, and my work has been shown in numerous local exhibits. Several of my illustrations are published in "Collected Poems," by Margaret Harney. I live in the country outside of Hillsborough, NC with my husband, dog and ducks.
